Château Deyrem Valentin

3 Apr

So, what if this week I proposed a A.O.C MARGAUX wine? I invite you to discover the Château Deyrem Valentin, AOC Margaux, classified Cru Bourgeois. 🙂
Beautiful property of the 18th century (1730), it covers 15.5 hectares, 13 hectares of AOC Margaux and 2 ½ in Haut-Médoc AOC. The Chateau Deyrem Valentin is on the common Soussans and produces annually three wines: Château Deyrem Valentin (AOC Cru Bourgeois Margaux), Château Soussans (AOC Margaux) and Château Valentin (AOC Haut-Médoc).
This cute Bordeaux building has been in the Sorge family since 1928.

In 1999, after some wine making in Australia and in South America, Christelle Sorge (see photo), accompanied by her sister Sylvie take over from their parents. These two sisters, heirs of the paternal passion, put all the family experience and all their energies to perpetuate the policy of the vineyard: elegance, finesse, aromatic expressions.
A requirement in their work? Yes, honesty, respect for the land, the labor requirement in the vineyard and a requirement to master the skills of all stages, from the vine to bottling, are her watchwords.
Some features:
– Soil: deep gravel (graves profondes)
– Variety: 50% Merlot, 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 1% Petit Verdot, 1% Carmenere (which makes this wine special)
– Ageing: 12 to 15 months in barrel, 100% in barrel, 1 / 3 of new barrels (wood brings the side, toasty wine) 1 / 3 of a barrel of vintage, 1 / 3 of barrel two vintages
– Production of wine Château Valentin Deyrem: 70 000 bottles
– Tasting advice: decant the wine before serving to reveal all the aromas, the complexity of this wine.
The story of the week: Where does the name of the Chateau come from? The first owner of the Chateau, who was also the first mayor of the town after 1788.

His plan? a white wine vinification on a parcel undeveloped in the heart of the appellation …. but a white wine “out of the ordinary” (appointment is made in a few years)

Rated wine, I had the chance to discover the vintage 2009 … aromas of red fruit, cherry ripe, spicy notes and a toasted side characterize the sweet nectar.
For my part, I would advise you to associate it with a roasted red meat or veal …. Such as veal brochettes with red berries and green pepper with mushrooms.
Thanks to Christelle Sorge for his home.

Chateau Saint Christoly

26 Mar

For this new ” wine tasting ” I wanted to discover and taste for you the Château St Christoly in Médoc.

A small family which is named after the village in which it is located. The Château Saint Christoly is over 150 years old. The family is at the helm since 1860!

With such a past family there is no doubt the knowledge of the property. On hearing this I only delayed one thing: go to the tasting.
This beautiful property is held by two sisters HERAUD. Catherine involved in the vineyard and the winery …. Sandrine for any part of the communication, marketing, business 🙂

To my surprise I learned the unusual career of it. A Bachelor literary graduate of a college letter of modern theater bitten, there was no time to imagine that she would return later to take care of the Chateau with her sister …. But the “call” of Medoc was strong … to believe that the Saint Christoly’ wine flows in the veins of the family for over a century and a half.

Let’s get to the heart of the matter: the vineyards 🙂

The vineyard covers 29 hectares, 55% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine is 95% in barrels (that’s a lot!) With 25% new barrels.
To the question “What is your objective in producing your wines? “The answer is simple, clear and precise:” The tannic finesse, elegance, quality, a good balance between fruit and wood …. And above all a reasonable price. ”

Well, deal wines on his blog and not drinking it will don’t at all! So I corrected the problem. I was pleasantly surprised by the notes of ripe red fruit and fine tannins. A final Regulation … yum!
I lacked one thing: a juicy roasted chicken to accompany this nectar …. Moreover, such a feminine wine..

Finally, a little story about the Chateau: Since 1860 the property has been held in turn by two generations of women, after two generations of men, so far.

See you soon for another tasting wine …. 😉

Thanks to the family for their hospitality Heraud.

Château Trapaud

28 Feb

TCHIN! We toast with a third of “Bordeaux Wines”? 🙂

Then it will be a good glass of Château TRAPAUD (Saint Emilion Grand Cru)!

The Castle is a family property Trapaud about 15ha in the family Larribière, for 4 generations.

The origin of this vineyard goes back to the 16th century, having the TRAPAUDS as the founding family, and giving its name to the locality.

Since 1997 it is Beatrice who is in charge of the vineyard.

Young and dynamic vineyard is on these vintages, in perpetual search of fruit, finesse on the palate, the wine’s elegance and is the least marked by the tannin appearance like the Saint-Emilion usually are. (I could not wait to taste this nectar!).

For culture of the vine? The vineyard is currently “conversion (=turning) Bio”. That is to say that the vines are not treated with chemicals but with manure nettle house, Bordeaux mixture ….  Etc.

Side projects? Make white wine. But also developing wine tourism in order to discover his passion, his vineyard and  show their wine to the neophytes.

Each Castle has its story 😉 : In the 16th century, Guyenne, especially in the village inhabited by Trapaud, the Protestant Reformation was on. Soon the whole family became protestant and was then forced into exile, particularly in England. Thus we find a few generations later a descendant: Trapaud Cyrus, who was the savior of the King of England at the Battle of Dettingen in 1743.

Well that’s not all! Let’s go for for the tasting 😉

The 2009 vintage has a nice fruity nose, this wine is full, with great pleasure in the mouth, a  long mouth, a beautiful bouquet of red fruit, blackberry …. A perfectly ripe fruit. I was pleasantly surprised by the tannins (Beatrice’s will is respected).

Great for example with Bolognese or calf !
